The Egyptian myth of the heart weighed against a feather, read through Kant’s radical evil and Arendt’s banality of evil.
ANUBIS was a contemporary circus work inspired by the Egyptian myth of Anubis and the weighing of the feather and the heart. After death, a person’s goodness was measured by placing the heart on a scale against a feather: if the heart was lighter, the person entered paradise; if heavier, they faced punishment.
The work explored who has the authority to judge another person as evil, and by what criteria. It drew on Immanuel Kant’s concept of radical evil and Hannah Arendt’s idea of the banality of evil.
The piece was created as part of my studies at Turku Arts Academy, in collaboration with Parkour Akatemia.
