Project Description
ANUBIS was a contemporary circus work inspired by the Egyptian myth of Anubis. The piece drew on the myth of weighing the feather and the heart. After death, a person’s goodness was measured by placing the heart on a scale against a feather. If the heart was lighter, the person entered paradise. If the heart was heavier than the feather, the individual faced punishment.
The work explored who has the authority to judge another person as evil and by what criteria. It drew on Immanuel Kant’s concept of radical evil and Hannah Arendt’s idea of the banality of evil.
